How To Apply Decals | How To Remove Decals | Maintenance

The vinyl used in our decals and magnets is high-performance, indoor-outdoor vinyl that is UV-resistant/non-fading, with a high-tack adhesive for excellent adherence to any smooth, rigid surface. This vinyl has a 5-year life and is not damaged by water, glass cleaner, windshield wipers, cold, heat, or sunlight.

Easy to apply, the decal will not come off unless removed with a blade. Decals are available in a multitude of colors; some are also available in specialty vinyl such as reflective, holographic, metal effects, and etched-glass.

Magnets are a popular alternative for those who want a removable and repositionable decoration for their vehicle. Our magnets are made by applying colored vinyl to a thin, magnetized vinyl sheet.

How to Apply Decals

1) Apply to a clean, dry, cool, hard surface. Dust on the surface will leave bumps in the vinyl, and hot surfaces promote bubbles.

2) Peel the application tape (transparent or clear "top" layer of the decal) away from the stiff, opaque backing paper. The colored vinyl will come off with the application tape. Go slowly so you pick up all of the vinyl onto the application tape.

3) Position the decal on the surface and affix one edge or corner of the application tape.

4) Use a squeegee, credit card, or similar straight edge to smooth the decal onto the surface. Start from one corner or edge and work your way across the decal, smoothing out air bubbles as you go. Squeegee over the entire surface of the application tape when you are done.

5) Peel away the application tape, leaving the vinyl stuck to the surface.

6) Bubbles on the edge of the vinyl can be squeezed out with your squeegee. Larger bubbles can be popped with a needle or Xacto knife and the air smoothed out of them. Now you are done!

For LARGE vinyl graphics we suggest taking them to a vehicle graphics or window tinting business and have them apply it. Large graphics can be difficult to position correctly, it's best to let a professional do it so you don't ruin your decal!

How to Remove Decals

From Glass Windows

Use a box-cutter blade to scrape up an edge of the vinyl. Once you have a small piece uprooted, pull the remainder with your fingers. Remove remaining adhesive residue with WD-40 or adhesive remover solution, then clean with glass cleaner.

From Car Paint/Body or Other Surfaces

Use your fingernails to pick up an edge of the vinyl and pull what you can off with your fingers. Do NOT use a blade to remove the vinyl. WD-40 or an adhesive remover solution will speed up the process.

Magnet Maintenance

Sand will accumulate under magnets after several weeks. Be sure and remove magnets from your vehicle every month or so and wipe the magnet and the car with a wet rag to remove the sand. Sand under a magnet can rough up the paint of your car if it is not cleaned.

It is possible for magnets to permanently adhere to another metal surface if they are not removed after a long period of time. High quality magnetic vinyl, which is what we use at K9-Design, reduces this tendency but it can still happen. For this reason you should reposition your magnets every few months to avoid this.

Dirty magnets can be cleaned with soap and water or glass cleaner. Just be gentle!
